Yes. NIMH batteries are available in a variety of capacities. 2500 MaH batteries with a good charger provide a runtime comparable to the best of alkalines.

Can I recharge the batteries while installed in my Magellan Explorist 210™?
No. You must remove the batteries from Magellan Explorist 210™ to charge them. Even if you provide external power, the batteries will not charge.
